Vintage 90s/Y2K Made in Italy Frayed Fringe Knit Cardigan Size M

Prato, Italy. A textile town that has been weaving fabric since the Middle Ages and has never once stopped caring about how it's done. This cardigan came out of that tradition — manufactured by Maglificio Ites S.r.l. in the late 1990s / early Y2K era, when Italian private-label knitwear was at its quiet, confident peak. It wasn't made for a logo. It was made to last.

The fabric is the first thing you notice: a textured horizontal micro-stripe in marled charcoal and black that reads like tweed but feels nothing like it — soft, structured, and with that distinctly Italian brushed surface texture that comes from the alpaca and wool content woven into the blend. The aesthetic is unmistakably Chanel-inspired — ladylike, Parisian, and quietly luxurious — with beautifully distressed frayed fringe trim running the full length of the front opening and framing two decorative faux hip pockets in the manner of a classic bouclé jacket. At the scooped neckline, a delicate built-in knit string-tie gathers and fastens at the bust — wear it tied for a polished finish, or loosely draped for something more effortless. Pair it over a slip dress, with tailored trousers, or thrown over your best denim. Exactly the kind of thing she’d collect.
