Vintage 90s A Dong Silk Bespoke Purple Jacquard Shift Dress Size M/L

Hold it up to the light and the fabric does something unexpected — a subtle zebra-stripe background weave emerges beneath the crimson geometric lines, shifting and shimmering as you move. This is 100% woven silk jacquard, deep violet-blue, heavy and luminous, and it was made by hand at A Dong Silk Personal Tailoring in Hoi An, Vietnam sometime in the late 1990s to early 2000s. Made for one person, to their exact measurements, with a level of care and precision that simply doesn’t exist in mass production. There is no size tag — bespoke garments never have one. That’s the point.

The silhouette is a clean, structured sleeveless shift with a mid-depth scoop neckline that mirrors front and back — very late 90s, very intentional. Side-bust darts and longitudinal back darts give it a quietly contoured fit without being restrictive. The back closes with a perfectly colour-matched invisible zipper finished with a teardrop pull, and the centre back seam is pattern-matched with the kind of precision that tells you exactly how much the maker cared.
